How safe is it to open my Macbook Pro myself to check my fans

Okay the fans are making loud nose and I wanna check if I can solve it myself by cleaning the dust and something else before taking it to get it repaired by Apple. How safe is it? Is it hard? Is there any chance I will wreck it? I'll be just opening it to clean the cooling fans.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2), 2009 17 inches

Peruse the photographs at iFixit.com and judge for yourself. Aside from the tiny tools to remove tinier screws, it's not difficult.

Of course there is a chance you'll wreck it, so minimize the risk. MBP disassembly / reassembly is not difficult for the mechanically inclined. I use an egg carton to keep all the tiny screws (remove the eggs first).
