Hi there - a friend of mine is long term user of MobileMe and asks me if there will be a possibility for him to get his email on his old iPhone 1st gen after going to iCloud. Can anyone give me some insight on this matter? Thanks in advance.

On the first gen, he can't upgrade to iOS 5, hence he can't use iCloud, which requires iOS 5. His mobileme will eventually go out of service at the end of June, so he is definitely near the end of using his MobileMe email unless he gets a newer generation iPhone.
An alternative to buying a new gen iPhone, is to forward/copy all his icloud email to a gmail account on the 1st gen iphone, and problem solved.
