Has anyone successfully setup an 802.1x configuration for PEAP on their MacBook Pro? I have a PEAP config that works for my PowerBook, but the EXACT SAME configuration is not working for the MacBook Pro. It looks as if everything is fine (no authentication errors or anything), but no dhcp IP address is ever assigned to the wireless (en1); instead it has a 169.x.x.x address??
Any ideas?
PowerBook G4/Sager 5600/Custom Intel Machines/NEW MACBOOK PRO 2.16/7200rpm/2gb,
Mac OS X (10.4.5)
I´m experiencing the same problems with the network at my university. Hopefully someone will find a solution for this problem soon because it is driving me nuts having all those windows users making fun of me because my wireless isn´t working, saying it is because it is a Mac
hey blackntan, is your firmware 0.1.12? Other threads are talking about other problems and they have this firmware....apparently the 0.1.16 has less problems. Mine is 0.1.12 and I can't connect with PEAP.
I am currenlty experiencing the same problem (and new to Mac OS X). I have firmware 0.1.12 - how can I update this to 0.1.16. I have found an Airport Extreme firmware update (5.7) but, from what I can tell - this updates base stations.
I have the same problem. I do tech support at West Virginia University and w use Cisco access points and PEAP. So it looks like nobody with a new MacBook can get onto the wireless campus network as of right now 😟
Pleases hurry up with a fix Apple! Not being able to use your MacBook with the wireless network is like pancakes without syrup, mashed potatoes without gravy, scrambled eggs without ketchup 😉
Well - calls to Tech Support have not yielded any help. Basically - the person I spoke with had not heard of LEAP or PEAP, and, without the ability to restart my router (I am on a university network and definitely do not have access to our networking hardware), was basically told that there was nothing they could do over the phone. It seems that whatever databases the tech support folks tap into - they do not include any information about this issue. Let's just hope someone at Apple is aware and working on the problem.
I'm a student who works for ITC at the University of Virginia and apparantly they're working with Apple on fixing this for our encrypted wireless that uses TLS, maybe it's a common fix. If they give us any tools I'll be sure to post em.
Please do! I'm having the same problem @ Berklee in Boston we seem to connect the same way. the Tech Support Dept. said they are "working" on it. I call once a week to see if it's fixed so If i find out something first I'll post back
Okay i took my MBP to my school. And I can't get no internet. This is what i get:
Airport is connected to the network wireless. Airport has self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet.
So far at my school no one knows what is wrong. I took it to the peoaple at school who are experts on computers but they don't even know what is wrong. Other students with MBP are having the same problem. Powerbooks are getting internet so i dunno what's the problem with mine.
From what i see in this forum other students are also having problems.
Yesterday i called apple and they told me that i need to be at my school in order to help me with this problem. they said that they will send a signal or something to see if there is a problem with the airport or it just could be my school's network thing. i dunno much about all this technical stuff and i'm all new on using a mac. So will see how things turn out.
Where is apple on this. I mean, maybe I'm being impatient, but this is my first mac and all I've ever heard about from friends is their great customer support. So....whats the deal? Has anyone out there been told a timeline for a fix?
All we know is that they are working on this and trying to find out what is wrong. As long as they do not know what is wrong they can´t say how long it´ll take.
But there seems to be an OS update in the making that is almost finished. I´m keeping my fingers crossed that this will fix our problem.
As I type this I am connected to the wireless LAN at West Virginia University with my MBP using PEAP. How did I do it? I installed Windows XP in a second partition and configured my wireless networking preferences (installing special wireless card driver is not trivial though). It works great! Okay Apple - if I can use my MBP/PEAP only with Microsoft Windows on my MBP and not Mac OS X - this is a SERIOUS problem. Please fix this soon! Hey, wow someone else at WVU with a macbook pro? what are the odds? Anyhow, yeah I thought of doing that myself 🙂 But I'd rather another solution...there are some other problems I'v been having with networking too. Maybe we can work together on this sometime.
