usb port has power but wont read macbook pro

Question

I have a macbook pro with 2.4ghz intel core i7 mac os x version 10.7.3  and my USB ports recently stopped working.  They still power drives, but are not reading any information.  It&#x27;s as if the devices do not communicate, though the powering function of the ports still works.  Any body know what I should do about this?

No, it&#x27;s not a mounting issue.  I don&#x27;t see any drives in the disk utility, and though it will power a usb drive, or my phone through usb, my wacom tablet doesn&#x27;t communicate either.  it&#x27;s very strange.

Restart. Check again. If System Profiler still doesn&#x27;t see your devices, you may have a hardware fault. Run AHT&lt;http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509&gt;

Plug in a drive then launch Disk Utility. Do you see your drive in the column on the left side?

Launch System Profiler, go to Hardware &gt; USB and check what devices are listed.
