Little Snitch and Pro Book 'gift'

I was gifted a reconditioned, like new by all appearances, pro book OS X.7

The device works very well, impressive speed etc. Only one time start up was frozen and I maneuvered by it with a Pram reset on start up. This happened the very first time I restarted it and I never gave it any thought since it cleared right up.

Now here's my question.

I am demoing LS. I note that in the mDNSR section, a local iphone is making a connection, I assume, with my laptop.

This iphone is owned by the gift giver.

What does this mean?

I do no syncing, and I never will own a cellphone, ever.

My thoughts are that the iphone is simply showing up because airport is being contacted by the iphone user. Not necessarily is the iphone talking to my pro book, or is it? I cannot fathom any reason for an iphone to be popping up on my LS display. It is almost always popping up when the iphone user/gift giver is nearing my bunker, home, etc.

Help, please. 2 days of my life trying to sort this out. This is my first apple community post. I dread the answer but must have one.

Please try to interpret my post as I intended, from a logic standpoint. The giver could have done something in between apple and me. I am not calling out apple.

I am not eating for a few days. My computer is the least of my worries, I am looking for a solid, sealed, reason to turn my back, forever. I may have found it. You don't know what it is to be...me.

I just need to verify somthing here. Correct me if I am wrong.

You are using LS's Network Monitor. You keep seeing mDNSResponder in the display, and you "assume" some phione is using it? Sort of like this,

User uploaded file

What does it say next to the the mDNSResponder? You do realize that that is being used for DNS resolution don't you? The above is the LS Network Monitor from my machine while refreshing this web page. I use OpenDNS for my DN servers.

Specifically, the iphone is the same as the owner of the phone, and the giver of the gift. The name of the person is there. Other times I see the apple wu address, or other internet protocol addys there, which is normal. They are next to the mDNSR row. I haven't loaded fifefox, though I am well familiar with it.

I am thinking of getting a iphone if only to test out syncing, or spyware, on my own book, since it may be the simplest route. I look at this pop up all the time. If nothing else, it tells me when to drop back into my hole. I see that iphone, and it means the music dies.

ETA: I remember when I had Firefox replace my long expired safari browser, since it would enable me to open emails, impossible with safari or any then current browser, due to expiration. FF had useful tools for seeing what was going on. One day, during an extended fight over territory (mom's basement) with a sibling, I watched my emails open, close, and get marked unread. But then that visitor couldn't make eye contact, and actualy took her dog for a walk, for the first time, due to just such a blog I coughed up in desperation. The person saw their doom unfolding right before their eyes from the comfort of a starbucks chair. When she came home, I was in **** for the excuses, lies, and accusations she had to make. I will never talk think of her again. Needless to say, I dreamt that a tornado nearly took out the house, flexing every window in the cellar inward, and everyone was there, except the spies.

FF showed that credit cards were flying about (I had none), and facebook (NEVER), and dating sites....again, never...all sorts of stuff, on my computer. Does apple offer the same tool set that FF was sporting back then? FF worked for me even when the screen was a miniscule zig zag, and the machine was leaking electromagnetic radiation, and the screen was tilted. FF was past updates for over 18 months and it still enabled me to do about anything.

It's morning; I find myself alive, guten tag...for the first time I am given a prompt of which I will attempt a screenshot after this post.

It says: "softwareupdatecheck" wants to connect to swscan.apple.com on TCP port 80 (http)

I have no idea if I should allow, or if this is a LS prompt or otherwise. My very first prompt. Is it from Little Snitch, extended overnight length long play demo mode!, or is it someone trying to remove something they ought never had put there in the first place?

Remember, the whole world is free to watch what I do on my computer, I don't care at all. Come one comae all, except 1 person on earth. That person hurts me, frequently, with some sort of happiness I do not understand. What to do what to do.

I find little LS support from their end, online. I'm hardly a paying customer. I get the feeling there's as much humanity there as found in a Austrian cop during anschluss. Remember, Captain: It isn't IF the anschluss happens...it is WHEN. LS seems to like me though, because the demos last all day, not just 3 hours. I am certain I cannot live without it. But I want to know if I was given a 'synced', or a child monitored computer. Do not want to destroy evidence.

I screen-captured the persistent prompt message, but copy and paste with screen shots is seemingly not possible, so I cannot show this forum the prompt I described above. What is more, LS timed out, and the prompt which was persistant (I actually wrote the last post right through it) has vanished.

There was no mention of Little Snitch on the prompt. I don't know if it is a fake apple thing, a real apple link, or what...? Of course I am familiar with reguar apple software updates, I have seen hundreds of them. This is not theirs, but it may be one of theirs coming through the LS filter. So I wait for official software prompt/update from apple, of which there is none. There is a black square with a white sideways V and a small horizontal line.

Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way. Is there a way to just allow everyone to see what I do online, the whole world, while keeping only 1 person out of it??? That would solve things quite beyond the puny little computer concern. I don't mean to boast, but there are few, if any, corporate message boards that exist which don't yank my words, once I get on a roll.

All quiet on the western front.

OK-the odd software prompt is still on my screen. It remained, I THINK, despite LS momentarily being stopped (demo expired). Can anyone guess my suspicion? It feels as if the pop up link is from a software firm that added stuff to my apple, for the remote viewing pleasure of the gift giver. It just feels wrong, I should check around online. Incidently, that same prompt emertged just moments after the xxx's iphone flashed on my connection screen, because that person just awoke and reached for her ever present iphone.

My sadness is profound, please don't anyone become affected by it in any negative ways....

Feb 29, 2012 7:38 AM in response to sasscunstein

Just wondering why a new mac user like yourself felt the need to install Little Snitch anyway? I know that some people have legitimate reasons for using it, but for the most part LS is used by people that pirate software. I'm not judging here, but if thats what you are doing, the chances that you might have downloaded some malicious software greatly increase. Just saying 🙂

Feb 29, 2012 7:39 AM in response to sasscunstein

I was incorrect about the prompt still being 'live'. I was merely seeing a screenshot which was layered behind my other pages. Nonetheless, I don't see it as coming from Little Snitch. I think it is from the company that supplied the add on thoughtfully purchased along with 'my computer'.

I did get 1 LS prompt a few days back, regarding an email I was composing. I recall that it had LS insignia and name on it. This one is different.

Are you high?

Feb 29, 2012 7:44 AM in response to Andrew Wolczyk

Oh no no no, don't get me wrong. I have no trouble with computers, or paranoia. I started this thread because of the odd behaviors I saw when I approached that person.....hastily wiping her screen, which is not something a person who regularly stuffs herself with 'the Word' would be doing. That, and other things. Little Snitch came about because everyone was talking about it on other forums when I visited them to try to understand child monitoring programs. Again: I would prefer that the entire universe, minus 1 person, was able to see my computer activities.

Eventually, everything I do will become illegal, but that's because the world is being allowed to change, not me.

Feb 29, 2012 7:52 AM in response to Andrew Wolczyk

Am I high? No. After fasting one becomes quite clear headed. Vision improves, and memory as well. Also, being high typically does not allow such clear access to powerful dreams. Thank you, though, for your considerate thought.

I really do not want to revist that day, that dream. Imagine Salem witch hunt days: that is exactly what I saw in real life, just before I passed out. The dream came from God, sorry to say. As to the earthquakes in Virginia and Colorado, last August, I am unsure what caused them, natural or otherwise. We are digressing into quantum awareness, which is, although related, quite another topic.

Andrew, I don't 'pirate'. I was unaware that 'pirates' use Little Snitch. I don't have time for being entertained by media and music. I don't like any sounds coming through any digital interface, so pirating is not something I pursue. But I would like to catch the Sopranos, the Wire, and Jericho.

A side point: if anyone is familiar with the intricate character development of Livia Soprano.....well, by contrast, that person is a Saint. David Chase had a model to work from which is worthy of an entire series, in his mother. There's enough material here for an entire conference of domestic abuse offshoots. You cannot possibly understand. It isn't your fault, or your problem. I just want to know if xxx's iphone is talking to my computer. I believe that it is.

Feb 29, 2012 8:32 AM in response to X423424X

X, right next to the mDNSResponder is a green highlighted image that fades away, showing a personal cell phone name, the same person who bought my computer. Above this, under connection history, are always several rows stateing the exact same person's iphone. As you know, the history hangs on until pushed aside from other things, such as protocol IP's and even my own name with pro book. I even restarted my computer after changing my name to 'Bert' (see Pynchon's 'Gravity's Rainbow') in an attempt to see if 'Bert's Pro Book' would now begin appearing. Nope, it is still showing 'my name' mac pro under connection history. This allows more possible combinations, since the lingering name I formerly used on my mac book may not be recognized by LS even though I downloaded it afresh, after trashing it, or maybe my name is on another persons 'computer' or phone as a way to throw me off. If it happened, IF child monitoring or syncing were done, that would be a clever way to conceal the attempt. Obviously I need assistance. I am hardly versed in IT.
