Feb 29, 2012 3:48 AM in response to davidfromzaragozaby Ralph Landry1,David,
Have you looked into Pages, part of the iWork suite that can be purchased as a separate app for iPad, to see if you can use rtf format? This link has a little about it. Doesn't say rtf but check with apple and maybe it will do what you want.
Regards

Feb 29, 2012 4:00 AM in response to davidfromzaragozaby Demo,I use Pages and just tried this myself and as I thought, (unless I have overlooked something) Pages will not open .rtf files. Look at an app called Documents to Go Premium Office Suite. This may suit your needs.

Feb 29, 2012 4:02 AM in response to Ralph Landry1by davidfromzaragoza,Thanks for answering!
In the link it does not say anything about rtf.
I just changed the Extention on the PC from rtf to doc and sent it to the iPad.
And now the file open without problem.
WHY APPLE IS CUTTING THIS EXTENTION (RTF) TO WORK ON THEIR DEVICES?
The problem is to change all the time the extention to be able to see the file!
Best
David

Feb 29, 2012 4:05 AM in response to Demoby davidfromzaragoza,Page does not open the RTF File as you say.
Have you open an RTF with Premium Office Suit?

Feb 29, 2012 4:09 AM in response to davidfromzaragozaby Ralph Landry1,Pages will work with the Word .doc and .docx formats so if you are able to convert the files, why would you want to stick with .rtf? Is there a particular reason that you do not want to use the .doc format since that is compatible?

Feb 29, 2012 4:12 AM in response to davidfromzaragozaby Demo,I do not use Documents to Go but I know it has been recommended by a number of users here on the discussion site.
I just looked at the Docs to Go support page which you can view here
http://support.dataviz.com/support_index_dtg.html#12
The .rtf files can be viewed in the app but they cannot be edited.

Feb 29, 2012 4:52 AM in response to Demoby davidfromzaragoza,Just tested! And NO!
Other apps like Fileapp and others also say they can open them but they do not!
Frustating :-(

Feb 29, 2012 5:01 AM in response to davidfromzaragozaby Demo,The support site claims it can open the file. I have another app that is called Save 2 PDF. It will open .rtf files. I just tried it and it works. It will open the file and you can read it and print it if you have the helper app on your computer that you need with Save 2 PDF, but you cannot edit the file.
I'm not sure why you are not having any success opening these files in apps that claim to work with .rtf files. I know of no app that will edit them, but open and view them, these apps are supposed to be able to do that.
Contact Documents to Go support and see what they say if you tried it and it doesn't work.

May 27, 2012 6:19 AM in response to davidfromzaragozaby MasterZara,Hi David,
Try an app called Notability. It works great with .rtf files and can not only open, but also edit them. And it's fairly cheap, too.
I'd had the same problem and Notability helped. It's my first post here and I'm happy to help :)

May 27, 2012 8:50 AM in response to MasterZaraby davidfromzaragoza,Many thanks but I can not find the app in the store.
I solved the problem by rename the extention into .doc and then all programs are able to open.

Jul 6, 2012 10:08 AM in response to davidfromzaragozaby Ratsneve,This is interesting. I was on a recent trip using my iPad for the first time which has Pages installed. The assumption was made that Pages would at least open all extensions Word uses--not (apparently). I received an email with a .rtf file attached and it would not open. I wish I had thought to see if I could rename it in the iPad as a .doc file to see if that would open and read properly. (Being able to edit the .rtf file was not so important.)
Otherwise, it is obvious that we need a means to at least open .rtf files and Pages is obviously what Apple should add this file extension to!

Nov 8, 2012 7:00 AM in response to Demoby HockeymominMN,This app worked perfectly. Could not find an app to open .rtf files. Get work schedules this way and very frustrating as I can open easliy on laptop (mac), but not in iPhone. Many apps tried and failed, but the Save2pdf is the answer. THANKS!!
