TextEdit Papersize

Although all my preferences for Papersize and printing is A4 – in the programms, where it is possible too – TextEdit takes US-Letter-Size for .doc-Documents. If I make a new TextEdit-Document, the size is A4 (as my chosen preference). But always when I open a MS Word-Document (.doc) it's US Letter! Why? How can I change this?
Should be a simple question, but there's nothing to find … 😟

Hi, Thomas —

I don't know the answer to your quandary, though my guess is that it's an inherent constraint of TextEdit being a limited-feature program.

I've also noticed that a few features of TextEdit are only available to new documents as set in TextEdit Preferences, &/or for .rtf documents.

This makes me wonder whether you could "work-around" the .doc paper-size issue by
(a) Opening a new (blank) TextEdit document
(b) Separately opening the MS Word document
(c) Copying and pasting from (b) into (a), then printing (a).

I realize this would be a pain — but does it work? (I'm not set up to test this at the moment...)

Sorry I can't offer more help. Perhaps by "refreshing" your thread, someone else will notice and offer a better solution...

Regards,
Dean

A friend of mine got the answer, so I solved my problem:
In the printer office programm (don't know the english word) I had to go to information about the printer, then the rider "Install Options" you have to make a click at "take the nex bigger oder smaller size in relation" (probably it's another term in english). Then Text Edit still opens it in the wrong size, but if you print the document, it comes correct in the wanted size.
Maybe the problem only comes when you have a PS-Printer, because at home my bubble printer has nothing in the rider "Install Options".
