But I do NOT want iCloud...
So I keep getting these alerts from Apple TELLING me (not asking) that I have to migrate to iCloud or my MobileMe will be turned OFF come June.
The problem I have with this is that iCloud requires Lion, I have absolutely NO DESIRE (and no justified need) to move from SL to Lion as it has and will break many of my Apps -- tried on a test Mac and have read enough of these forums to see the compatibility problems Lion has with some of my key applications and 3rd party devices.
iCloud is basically forcing me to use "cloud storage" (aka servers) to hold my data (audio, video, data, contacts, etc.). This is done by synchronizing and/or moving my local storage to server storage ... given that even high speed internet access is still considerably slower (about 1000X slower) than storing MY data on MY hard drive. It's also a redundant and time consuming (read bandwidth hog and CPU hog) "feature" that I don't want. The LAST thing I want is iCloud using a CPU core to sync files while I'm rendering a Cinema4D project and/or working with Adobe PP and/or FCP7 rendering. And to be honest, I don't wany MY data on someone else's managed server ... no thanks!
So as it stands now, my MobileMe will EOL (end of line) because I will not upgrade to Lion which has iCloud.
The question is WHY? I see NO valid reason WHY I have to lose MobileMe?
And finally, why is iCloud not available for SL? iCloud has been made available for Windows platforms, why not for SL?
Sorry, but Lion is the worst OS to come out of Apple in a long time ... it's slower, has memory management issues, and a host of other issues (especially around older MacPro 1,1).
