I have an iPhone 4S that I purchased through Sprint the day they came out.
I hate Sprints service & want to switch to Verizon. (I get that I cannot jump to AT&T b/c I'm CDMA now and not SIM).
How do I go about getting my iPhone 4S unlocked so that I can switch carriers and not be forced to buy a new iPhone 4S.

You can't. If you want to switch to Verizon, you'll have to buy a Verizon iPhone. Even if Sprint would agree, which they will not, Verizon will not let you bring your own.
As KiltedTim has said, you'll need to purchase a new phone. Sprint does not unlock their phones; Verizon doesn't let you "bring your own".
