I installed a third party blu-ray drive in my MacPro. Is there some type of application for watching/viewing blu-ray discs? There doesn't appear to be any recent threads on this topic and I was curious. I had searched several sites and nothing was available.

There's an app called Mac Blu-ray Payer that claims to be able to play blu-rays but I haven't checked it out.
The latest VLC
should play Blu-ray discs.
Also, you can use MakeMKV
to make MKV files from Blu-ray discs.
MKV files can be played via VLC, or QuickTime Player 7 (Utilities folder) if you install Perian
I don't believe that vlc can directly play blu-ray disks inserted into a blu-ray player on a mac. Yes they say it has an experimental lib in 2.0 that is supposed to support it but apple's obsession with humoring the movie industry is probably always going to be a problem.
And yes you can convert blu-rays to other formats that vlc and others can play (e.g,, makemkv).
No simple codec is going to get around the obstacles apple imposes, so perian won't help either.
This is why I only suggested Mac Blu-ray Payer. I am not sure how it gets around the legalities. But I do know it requires call back to the Mac Blu-ray Payer web site to do its job. Not having a blu-ray player I cannot comment further on this app or how it does what it claims it does.

Interesting. Now if vlc 2.0 ever becomes as good as vlc 1.1.12 (because right now 2.0 s*cks -- unstable and other problems, see vlc forums) this may become useful knowledge (if I ever get a blu-ray player of course).

I bought and use Mac Blu-ray Player. It's an excellent application and along with Blu-ray ability it plays a number of video/audio formats that I haven't even been able to play with VLC.
Out of curiosity, do you know why it needs to call home as a requirement for playing blu-rays? Or am I misinterpreting the reason for calling home (not counting checking for updates)? Is this to get around some legal requirments?
Interesting question. I don't know the answer but causes me to wonder if a standalone blu-ray player does the same thing. Maybe as a result of the studios wanting to check for π-rated media.
My standalone Blu-Ray player isn't connect to the Internet, so it can't "phone home". The developers of Mac Blu-Ray Player have an explanation on their web site:
