Need help please...

Have a problem with an iMac at work. First of all, for Mail and Skype, instead of the regular red dot with white number showing the number of unread emails, it is now only showing a red dot without white numbers on the Mail and Skype icon in the dock.

Second, in the Mail, there are huge spaces between each line of text on from, to, date, and subject, so have to scroll down a lot to read an email. On the left pane, the small gray dot shows how many unread messages becomes a huge gray oval.
