My speaker icon in the top menu bar is gone & I can't reset it in the Preferences as there is no choice to hilight (as in built-in speaker).
Any suggestions on how to reset this?

Are you saying that in System Preferences > Sound there is no check box for "Show volume in menu bar" at the bottom of the window?

No the "Show volume in menu bar" box was there. I reset the PRAM (Cmd+option+P+R) and got the sound back. This is the second time in a couple of months I had to do this. Wonder what's causing this to happen.
