When in month view I can't add a new event. I can do so in week view.

Quit iCal, and try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder.
Use Finder>Go>Depress the "Option" key>Library>Preferences. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, log out/in or restart and check iCal for functionality.
Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it and it doesn't work. I can add an event in week view, but not in month view.
Until a few days ago I was doing that routinely. No idea what has changed.
Weirdly enough, if I try to add a "new event" in month view, nothing shows. But if I print the month view the words "new event" show on the day were I tried to enter a new event. Even more interesting, if I sync to my iPone the "new events" show there, too.
I'm stumped.
PS: couldn't tell from the graphic is that was a USCG or USN cap device -- I'm a 28 year Navy guy.

Try the "Find and resolve duplicate fonts" link in Mac 101: Font Book. Also try changing the "Refresh Calendars:" interval in iCal>Preferences...>Accounts.
If that is not helping, download and install OS X Lion Update 10.7.3 (Client Combo).
USN...that was the best graphic I could find.😀
I had the the same issue and found that when I enabled "Show All-Day Events" under the View menu I was able to add events and see them in the Month view.
