What is necessary to do when updating a 9.0.4 to a 10.3...how many updates?

I have had a 9.0.4 since 2000 and I would like to update with hardware. I have heard that updating to a 9.2.1 should be done before the 9.2.2. Others say that you can just go from 9.0.4 to a 9.2.2. Is that right? That means I wouldn't have to look for a 9.2.1 update. Please help.

That is correct per the "Read Me" file. However, in order to get to OS 9.2.1 update, you must update OS 9.1.
OS 9.1.

OS 9.2.1

OS 9.2.2

However, if you purchase the universal full installer OS 9.2.1 CD you can just go from OS 9.0.4 to OS 9.2.1 & then update to OS 9.2.2 from Apple's download site.

Well, since you want to spend the $$$...

You can get a copy of the retail OS 9.2.1 Install CD direct from the Apple Store, but only by telephone.

Make sure you check out all of the following links as prices vary for the OS 9.x cds.

Ask the vendors the color of the CD lable. All universal full install CDs are white w/an orange/golden 9.x on it.

Do NOT buy a gray installation CD - those are not universal installers but model-specific [NO matter what the seller says about them!] OEM-versions have caused problems in the past when used on other computer models.
