Dell didn't care to supply Mac drivers. Their loss.
Any ideas?
Yes, but not much more than an idea.
Go to this page: http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-218267.html
and read.
The first link doesn't seem to direct to the correct Linux Printing page, but if you read further down the list some respondents indicated you can use a Samsung driver.
Try those two Samsung links toward the bottom of the thread. Good luck!
The Samsung links are broken. Try this one:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/ML-2010?
Click "manuals and downloads", then "driver". You will see one for OS X 10.3 - 10.7. Download that and use it for the Dell's driver.
I am assuming from the old discussion the Dell 1100 is a rebranded Samsung ML-2010.
Thanks John. Not working though. Neither Samsung nor Dell are coming up in my driver list though when I try to add a new printer!
You ran the installer package and the driver does not appear in System Preferences > Print & Fax?
The printer cable is connected directly to the MacBook with a USB cable, you're certain the cable is OK?
Finally, to be sure, you downloaded and installed the driver from this page?
There was a reference in the macrumors thread about using an open source driver from the Linux Foundation. Although I searched for one there, I could find nothing immediately evident. From the pictures it does look like a rebranded Samsung ML-2010, so I would concentrate on making that driver work.
Samsung's user manual: http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200602/20060216163720484_ML-2010_En glish.pdf
It is very comprehensive, and I doubt I can offer much more than that. I won't bother posting Dell's user manual link because I already looked at it and it is not helpful.
I have no doubt you can make that printer work, but it's going to be a challenge due to its age and Dell's apparent lack of support for it.
Let me know what, if any, progress you make from here.
