Why does my iPad say 'not charging' when I plug into truck USB or computer?

It will only charge when I use the wall plug that came with iPad. It doesn't even charge when I am syncing with iTunes account.

The USB ports on most computers do not provide enough current to charge the iPad at a rate high enough to get rid of the "not charging" message. It may charge, but at a much lower rate.

The quickest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.

Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes.

Without Spending 70.00 - 100.00 on the original ipad charger.

If you have a wall plug (used for a digital camera or something like that), that has a USB port on it, try using that with your ipad sync or charger cable. It worked for me, my ipad used to say "not charging" but it did charge very slowly....now it doesn't say that anymore and when the battery is full the box pops up saying "100% Charged".

My adapter was for a kodak digital camera with the screen on it.

Adapter Specs: Input---> 100-240 Volts (Max-0.2Amps) ~ 50-60Hz

Output---> 5 Volts ~ 1 Amp

WARNING: If you don't have the adapter that came with the ipad..... NEVER leave your device plugged in for more than 8 hours or keep an eye on the battery level and unplug device when fully charged, otherwise you could wreck your device or even start a fire.

Why does my iPad say 'not charging' when I plug into truck USB or computer?
