New (Apple Original) battery not recognised on my MacBook

My laptop has not been charging at all, and shuts down immediately when charging cable is unplugged.

I have just bought a new battery, thinking that the 5-year old battery needed replacement.

However battery is still not charging, In fact, it seems that it is not even recognised, saying that no battery is installed!

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Maria
