Is there a way that I can read a Word (docx) document on iMac?

You can buy Office 2011, but I prefer Pages. There are alternatives including free ones like NeoOffice and OpenOffice, many others.

Pages is very good or if you want to go with MS Office for Mac you can find it at Amazon for about $100. Pages is certainless less expensive, you can download it from the Mac App Store for only $20.
http://www.libreoffice.org/ is very good as well. http://www.zoho.com/ offers a way of sharing Word documents on the internet as well as creating them.
