Just installed it, and it seems to work. I hope that this update will also fix my longtime 'AGC GPU REGISTER RESTORE FAILED' Kernel Panics that occur ever since upgrading from 10.6.2MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

I've used it for a day, and it's working great so far. It's like I have a new computer again. So much cooler on the lap and a longer working time on battery. So: So far, so good!

The firmware update fixed the blinks for me. Unfortunately not the 'AGC GPU REGISTER RESTORE FAILED' Kernel Panics that occasionally occur when booting or shutting down OS X.

Anyone else having problems with this update even taking? It is not even installing for me!

I've had the same problem as you: The MacBookPro wouldn't install the firmware update, SoftwareUpdate came always with the firmware update.
I've installed the update four times - nothing (if successfully installed, Boot-ROM-Version will rise from MBP51.007E.B05 to MBP51.007E.B06)
I did PRAM-Reset - nothing. I deleted rEFit - nothing.
I replaced some time ago the internal Superdrive with a SSD-drive - parallel with the harddrive.
Finally I've booted from the harddrive, did successfully the update - everything went fine.
