iPhone lock button broken - any apps that could help?

My sleep/lock button on top of my iPhone 4 is broken so I can no longer lock my phone without waiting for the autolock to kick in. Unfortunately my phone is out of warranty and I am not able to upgrade my phone until september which means 7 months of frustration.

Does anyone know of an app that allows you to instantly lock the screen?! I have found some that lock documents etc but not the phone itself.

thanks!

Under the accessibility menu there is an option that you can have to lock the screen manually. Go to settings>general>accessibility>assistive touch. Turn that on. It gives you an annoying white dot that you can use to lock the screen without having to wait for auto lock. I have this problem and because my phone is out of 12month warranty Apple are asking for £120 to replace the phone, as apparently this is not a fixable problem.

I've had the same issue and found the first users response extremely useful.

However having had a play around I would like to add that at the bottom of the same accessibility page is a tripple press home button option. You can use this to toggle touch accessibility on and off with three presses of the home button. This means you can add and remove the annoying white dot relatively quickly. For some reason it toggles off very quickly but takes a long time to toggle on.

What is frustrating for me is that Apple is not standing behind this defect. I went to the Apple Store and was told it would cost $269 to replace my phone. That does not sound like such a good deal to me when my contract is up in 4 months and a new iphone is coming out soon. I wonder if Apple can hear Samsung's footsteps in the background, because I'm certainly going to consider a change.

An unrelated issue is the proprietary way that Apple creates its produces so that interfacing a non Apple product becomes difficult. I have not been able to sync my iphone to my PC ever since I upgraded to Windows 7.
