My sleep/lock button on top of my iPhone 4 is broken so I can no longer lock my phone without waiting for the autolock to kick in.  Unfortunately my phone is out of warranty and I am not able to upgrade my phone until september which means 7 months of frustration.

Does anyone know of an app that allows you to instantly lock the screen?!  I have found some that lock documents etc but not the phone itself.

    No such app exists.

Out of Warranty replacements are $149 in the US.

Under the accessibility menu there is an option that you can have to lock the screen manually. Go to settings>general>accessibility>assistive touch. Turn that on. It gives you an annoying white dot that you can use to lock the screen without having to wait for auto lock. I have this problem and because my phone is out of 12month warranty Apple are asking for £120 to replace the phone, as apparently this is not a fixable problem.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

This has really helped as I can lock the phone straight away - yes there is a white dot but honestly for me it is a small price to pay for being able to lock it in a couple of seconds.

    Thank you for your help

I played around with assistive touch yesterday, and it seems to fit your needs perfectly. But, should you run into further trouble, you don't have a way to turn the phone off (if your button is that broken), or perform DFU restores, etc. Hopefully you don't run into those types of problems though

Does an option like this exist for the iPhone3G? perhaps if I update the firmware?

Look in the settings and find out for yourself.

    It honestly should be there.

I did before posting. There is no accessability section in the settings. Maybe it is hidden somewhere or it may be in an update?

I've had the same issue and found the first users response extremely useful.

However having had a play around I would like to add that at the bottom of the same accessibility page is a tripple press home button option. You can use this to toggle touch accessibility on and off with three presses of the home button. This means you can add and remove the annoying white dot relatively quickly. For some reason it toggles off very quickly but takes a long time to toggle on.

Just wanted to say thanks for this - I am used to the assistive touch showing as a white dot now - its been 4 months since I was given that help BUT it does get in the way - so your additional find is excellent.
