Folder contents count

Is there a way to bring back the folder contents count? I found it incredibly usefull for the folder to have the number of items displayed. This worked for all sorts of reasons not least of which was comparing against copied items/folders.

I can't understand why this feature would have been removed. It didn't get in the way. It was already there so no need for new programming. It served a very useful purpose but obviously someone thought differently.

If it isn't an option to show it, Apple, please bring back the feature.
