Where are looking for FaceTime?

There is no FaceTime app. If you go to contacts, selct a contact, there wil be four options to for that person.

  • Send Message
  • FaceTime
  • Share Contact
  • Add to Favourites

So select FaceTime and it will initiate a FaceTime session with that contact, IF the contact has a FaceTime devices and is available.

Check Settings>FaceTime>On and Settings>General>Restrictions>FaceTime>ON. On the 4 and 4S FaceTime is accessed through contacts. Go into your Contacts, access the contact you want to FaceTime with and you will see a tab at the bottom of their contact card. You can also access FaceTime by going into your Phone app, select dialling keypad, dial number, press call and an option for FaceTime on the keypad will appear. It should be noted that FaceTime has been removed from iPhones sold in some Middle Eastern countries at the express wish of the respective Governments. Here's my story, I live in Lebanon, the government here have no problem with the "FaceTime"...

I own an iPhone 4 that I bought from France with the FaceTime option working fine on it. Then I bought an other iPhone 4 for my wife, apparently it was imported from UAE which I tried hard all the software tips to get the FaceTime working on it with no success.

Now I'm convinced and agree with you modular747 that it is a lockout on the hardware level.

Can this lockout be removed? Is there a hardware part we can change to make it work? They must have altered something from the original iPhone to do this lockout...

Thank you

I bought my unlocked 4S in Dubai. Facetime was not in the Setings menu.

Back in the UK I tried a few SIM cards to no avail - Facetime not present.

In Kuwait I purchased a local Zain SIM card with access to internet, and to my suprise, Facetime not only appeared in the settings menu but was operational.

I am now in Abu Dhabi and although facetime was in my settings menu, it was not operational as I did not use a SIM card in the phone (using it as camera at work)

I have also just returned from UK and purchased a world SIM on the BA flight, but alas Facetime has again disappeared from the settings menu.

I have tried to top up my Zain card from the UAE, but no luck. I think if I were able to do so that Facetime will return.

So, It seems to me that the Facetime application on UAE phones is not completely disabled, but is dormant. Someone out there must know the glitch fix for this, because I know from experience that it is there with one service provider.
