Q: Why does my AppleWorks program keep shutting off when I try to save a document?

I I was able to use the AppleWorks program before we went on vacation. I shut it down before we left and now that we are back my AppleWorks application keeps shutting down whenever I try to save a document that I have just created. I have tried deleting all recent items; restarting the computer; shutting off and restarting the computer; and reloading the application. Nothing seems to work. I can still edit documnents already created but nothing new.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

    Hi Judy,

Deleting the Preferences files seems to be missing from your list.

    Quit AppleWorks,

    In the Finder, go to:

    username > Library > Preferences

    In the Preferences folder:

    • Locate and Delete the File com.apple.appleworks.plist
    • Locate and Open the Folder AppleWorks

In the AppleWorks folder, delete the following files:

    • AppleWorks 6 Assistants Cache
    • AppleWorks 6 Preferences
    • AppleWorks 6 Translators Cache

      Optional:
    • AppleWorks Button Bars
This file contains your Button Bar preferences. If you have made changes to the Button Bar, but hanve NO issues that can be traced to the Button Bar, it may be left in place.

    Regards,

    Barry

Barry, thanks for the suggestion but it did not work. I still have the same issue. Anything else I might try?

Did you apply the security update for Snow Leopard about a month ago? Symptoms included crashing when saving or printing. It could be that you used the faulty update that Apple fixed a couple of days later. Run Software Update again & see if there's a new version available.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I guess that because we were on vacation, I missed the update and didn't look when I got back. Your suggestion solved my problem!
