Apple Mac Pro I can't find folders to store information.

I am trying to help a friend with her Apple Mac Pro I can't find folders to store information. This is my favourite Mac feature . I am not a guru but have been using Macs since 1987. My current Mac is a Mac Book.

Depending on what application as to where the default Save location will be.

Does not tell me/us where or what the problem is or what you see when you look at the

Disk drive ("Macintosh HD" or whatever)

Or if you open to User (forget what the command key is)

There will be on the Dock your home folder, Applications, Utilities, System Preferences and others

you can't write or save to a folder or location to which you don't have permission or ownership

Thanks. I have always been able to select a new folder under file. It comes up Untitled Folder and then I name it whatever and place relevant owrk in it. I regard them as manilla folders and keep them in what I would call relevant drawers. They are under File on my Mac Book.

Yes, you create new untitled folders in the finder and save or stick stuff into them. So I still don't understand your problem.

No trouble creating a new folder on my Mac Book. When I select a document or other piece of informatiom I want to store I go to File and select New Folder. On my friend's Mac Pro I can't find the option New Folder. It is not under any heading on the menu bar. Unfortunately I don't have her computer in front of me now. I used an answer in this forum to alter the configuration of her mail folder so am hoping I'll be able to solve this one too.

Ok. Now I see. Of course I don't know why it wouldn't be in the finder's File menu on that machine.

Try creating a new account and see if the Finder behaves normally in that new account.

Also try booting in safe mode to see if that shakes things up a bit (clears a few caches and suppresses third party additions).

And then there's the "ever popular" com.apple.finder.plist in the Preferences which you might try removing.

It might depend on where you are as to what is in File menu.

I never use menu, I just use command keys for New Folder.

I was also thinking of how in SAVE or SAVE AS dialogue box when you are ready to save a file and want to create a new folder - all from within the application. Not in Finder.

Hard looking over someone's shoulder from 2500 miles distance too <g> !

I've been assuming all through this that he's in the context of the Finder (i.e., it is the current active app).

I never use the menu either but it's easier to specify that sometimes to posters.

I couldn't understand the problem either which is why I kept asking for more details. Finally he said "New Folder" was missing in the finder. Hence my more specific reply for that context.
