Mar 2, 2012 10:12 AM in response to Jean144by varjak paw,Use of ammonia on an iPad is definitely not recommended. It may damage the screen. The subject of disinfecting an iPad has been discussed in other threads here, with no clear answers other than to use a case that can be disinfected. You can view some of the other ideas and comments in these threads, among others:

Mar 2, 2012 10:49 AM in response to Jean144by J D McIninch,★HelpfulI believe that the iPads should be suitably resistant to UV to use that as a mechanism to sterilize the devices. You probably already have UVGI boxes or wands available in that setting (if not, they aren't that expensive).

Mar 2, 2012 11:36 AM in response to Jean144by thomas_r.,You definitely don't want to use chemicals on the screen, as they can damage the coating, and anything with ammonia should never be used to clean aluminum (which is what the back of the iPad is made of).
Mezorba is on the right track, but I don't know if a plain Ziplock bag will work. It may interfere with the touchscreen. Give it a try, and if it doesn't work, you can get some bags designed to work with the iPad. Here's one example:

Mar 2, 2012 12:32 PM in response to Jean144by Jean144,Thanks for all the feedback. The UV was one that I did not consider before. Will be looking at the sleeves and "Ziploc" solutions. You've all been helpful or have validated where I ws heading.
