I am trying to create a document in Pages for iPad and want to highlight various bits of text but can not find a function in the inspector for this. Can anyone help, please?

I figured this out. Took a while.

1). Use your finger or pen to select the words you want to highlight. Just like you are going to copy or cut.

2). Touch the paint brush in the tool bar top right. 3). Under the Font icon touch the 3 dots icon to the far right.

4). Toggle down to the bottom and touch text background

5). select color of choice.

That is a long ways to go but it should highlight your text. A simple highlight icon would be much easier.

Hi stuartdj,

I'm not finding a way to highlight text as one can do with iBooks (hold and swipe for black text, background yellow for example).

One option is to actually color the text itself.

Select the text, then in Style tools, tap the Font name at the top which shows the Text Options sheet where there is a Color option. Would changing the font color to Red, Green or Purple accomplish your goals?

If you do want black text on a colored background (highlighted) it would need to be text in a text box where you can change the fill (background) color. Style, Style Options, Fill. But this is not inline text and doesn't flow like just coloring the font itself.

My solution, produce a document on an iMac or similar with highlighted text, email to yourself and open in iPad Pages, save in the cloud. Rename as a style reference document, copy style when needed, open a target document, paste the style and then keep copying and pasting style in the document as needed.

Not great but a solution until Apple catch up.

If you add a shape or text box (top right corner you'll see the plus sign used to insert pictures and other media) you can change its colour to what ever you want it to be, and then you can paste text inside it, effectively creating a highlight. It's not perfect as you have to cut the text out first, then re paste it inside. And it doesn't conform to the text perfectly, it is just a box around what you need. But as far as I can figure out this is the best way to natively create a highlight within pages for iPad.
