Starting the opening program over?

I migrated with Migration Assistant from an old to new Macbook Pro. NONE of my files OF ANY KIND were migrated. So, far this assistant fails miserably the usefulness test. The question is how can I start over? Now, I plan to migrate from a Ime Machine, if that works. What ever happened to the old firewire/old laptop-is-a-hard drive routine?.
