Can't auto backup iPad 2 to iCloud
I'm trying to get my iPad 2 to automatically back itself up to iCloud.
- I have a home wifi network. The iPad can access it with no problems.
- The iPad rests in a charging dock at night (with the Night Stand app running, if that matters). It has a strong wifi connection while sitting in the dock.
- I have an iPhone 4S on the same wifi network. It automtatically backs itself up to iCloud each night.
- I believe I have both iCloud and the iPad iCloud settings correct. On the iPad I'm looking at the iCloud section of settings. I have more than 12 GB of available space in my iCloud account, and a couple of layers down the iPad tells me the next backup size is 1.7 GB.
- I can manually backup the iPad to iCloud without any problems. I have an existing backup of this iPad in iCloud.
- I have tried deleting the old iCloud backup of this iPad, turning off iCloud on the iPad, doing a hard reboot of the iPad, then turning iCloud back on.
Since my iPhone-iCloud autobackup works, I assume this is an issue on my iPad rather than with my wifi network or my iCloud account. I also don't think it's a problem backing up the iPad, given that I can do that manually.
It seems as if the iPad's automatic backup is not being "triggered." Every couple of weeks I get a message on the iPad telling me "I haven't been backed up in a while." I'd like to get it so that the backups occur (each night?) without me having to think about them.
It's a 64 GB iPad 2 (AT&T) running iOS 5.0.1 (9A405).
I'd appreciate advice if anyone has it.
