Apple will replace your iPad with another one for about 1/2 the price of a new one. You may can find a 3rd party repair source to fix it for less, however, your Apple warranty will be voided.

Yeah, you're actually not 100% accurate on that claim. Apple Retail Stores do have the flexibility and ability to repair a screen for cheaper than the standard out-of-warranty repair fee, but there are no guarantess.

A colleague of mine dropped it day 1, smashed the glass; took it to the Apple Store and they replaced it with a new one. No questions asked. That's service!

I purchased mine within the 30 days, i'm hoping they will replace it.
