There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
- Did it ever work properly?
- Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
I'm new to this so i don't know if it is too late to join this discussion?
I upgraded to Mavericks and couldn't access iphoto without also upgrading that which I did no problem. My macbook hated Mavericks so I downgraded back to 10.8.5 - although that might have been an older OS than I originally had - I'm not sure. - and now I can't iphoto cannot access the library. I've restored the old iphoto app from the time machine but that also won't access the photos. Any ideas what I could do? I'd really appreciate any help - no appointments left for the genius bar this week!
thanks
You need to restore the iPhoto library that matches the version of iPhoto you have - older versions of iPhoto can not use the library from a newer version
What version of iPhoto so you have installed?
LN
I don't know how I tell - the original one has an icon of a palm tree and sunset and the most recent one has the palm tree but blue sky!
As far as I can tell they are both installed.
in your applications folder select the iPhoto application (each if you have multiple) and get info to see the version
LN
The original one is 9.2.3 and the new one is 9.5.1
9.5.1 will not run under OS X 10.8.5 - depete that version form your computer
And iPhoto 9.2.3 is outdated - run software update (or App store ==> updates) and update to version 9.4.3 - restore an iPhoto library from before updateing to 9.5.1 and you should be ok
LN
ok - have moved the new one to trash.
searched for 9.4.3 on app store but no results the only one coming up is 9.5.1.
I don't mind an outdated 9.2.3 I just want to see my photos again. Can't I use the old app? How do I restore the photos? When I open the old app it asks if I want to build a new library but there is no option for that.
Thanks for your help
You update in the App store under purchases ==> updates - not int hte store window
LN
Yes am in purchases but all that is on offer is the new version that won't work with my now older os system.
