Thanks for response - iphone is syncing for email and contacts but not calendar. I'm using Windows 7 and office is up to date with service packs and also latest version of itunes. I've tried it in icloud and now with usb but I do not get the outlook calendar. Comcast told me they don't have the software out to do it but it clearly states "outlook" as a choice to sync calendars in itunes. Frustrating!!

Yes, Outlook will sync with the iPhone through iTunes. You don't need anything from Comcast to do it. It is possible that you have a corrupt appointment in the file and that is what is blocking it. Again, do you see any error messages or what is it doing when you get to the calendar portion of the sync? You may need to run the inbox repair file in Outlook to try and fix the problem. You would run the executable file on your Outlook database and then try the sync. The file you want to run is normally in the Office folder, it is called scanpst.exe. When you run it from the command line, you will be prompted to enter the outlook file, which should be outlook.pst. Let that run and make any repairs, restart Outlook, restart iTunes and then try and sync calendar again.

Well, it would take a bit to type all the instructions, however if you go to Outlook and then help, search for inbox repair or scanpst in the help files and it should give you all the instructions you need. You could also export to a file, then import back and see if that corrects it as well. Instructions for that can be found it help. Let me know if that helps, or if I can give you anymore information. It would just take too long and too much space to give you all the instructions, so look for them in the help file and follow it there.

The reason I said comcast is that is my service provider and when I was not able to sync with outlook, I called to ask them if it was on their side - they told me that it couldn't be done which I thought strange. Something more is going on with this sync because I'm not getting email addresses either. They couldn't help me in the Apple store either which is a bit scary...

what info would you need? the problem I'm having is that the sync is not taking place. No calendar, no email addresses - just a list of names in my contacts. When I search for outlook help, I seem to be doing what the instructions say but it doesn't work. I appreciate the time you've taken and would be willing to give you whatever info you need if you think you can help 🙂

Even though Comcast is your provider (as it is mine too) they have nothing to do with the sync of the phone or Outlook. In Outlook are the email addresses visible when you open a contact? Are you using Outlook on your computer or are you using an Outlook Web Application? If you are using Outlook on the computer and the email addresses are visible in the contacts, then yes, something else is going on here. You will need to recreate your Outlook pst file. You can export your current one and then import it to create the new one so you won't lose any data.

I've taken up enough of your time and really appreciate your help - but, just to answer your questions, I have a contacts folder with names, addresses, etc. - some have email addresses, some not and I also have an address book which is what shows up when I want to send an email. The contacts that DO have email addresses aren't showing up inthe sync either so I think I'm headed back to Apple or some phone tech support so I can be near the computer. I appreciate your help!!!

Don't worry about taking up my time. If I didn't have it, I wouldn't be here on the computer trying to help. You are talking about a contacts folder in Outlook 2003? The address book is when you click on sending a new mail and then click on the To: Am I correct? I think you should try and export your pst file and then try opening the new file in Outlook and see if that will correct things. You might need to go to the Microsoft site to get help in how to import the file. I am using Outlook 2010 and cannot remember the exact commands that would help you. I cannot remember if it is under Tools or somewhere else for you to export the file. It could be under File, then Export if 2003. After you save that file, then go to file and open, and then navigate to the new file and see if that opens a new Outlook pst file for you. You can then try and sync with the new one and see if that works. I hope that helps, but trying to remember all of the commands can be difficult. I teach Microsoft Office and having to remember all of the new ones can be difficult enough!

Since you were so nice in taking all that time with me the other day, I just wanted you to know that Apple helped me resolve the problem. I requested a bump up in tech support and after more than an hour, he discovered that I probably had a corrupt file in Outlook. I know you had suggested exporting Outlook and syncing with new file but I didn't feel comfortable doing that and was leaving it as a last resort. What he did was the following: Went into Computer, c drive, users, Debbie, AppData, Roaming, Apple Computer, Sync Services and we renamed that folder and everything synced. What I did find out is that Outlook 2003 is not compatible with iCloud for syncing - when I tried to download iCloud to do that, it specifically says for 2007 and newer so I have to sync via usb which is fine until I upgrade to 2010. If anyone else is reading this post and wants to try the steps above, hope it works for you. Thanks again for your time.

I'm glad it worked out. I know I had suggested the corrupt file and I'm glad they were able to talk you through it. I know this is what I wanted you to do, but as you say, sometimes having to read about it versus doing it while someone is on the phone makes a difference. Good luck and you will enjoy the update to Office 2010. If you happen to be a student in the US, Microsoft has a deal for students and Office 2010 for $99. That is a significant savings over the regular price of $600 plus. Good luck!
