They are basic iOS apps and cannot be removed. The best you can do is move them to a back page so you don't have to see them. While Reminders can be moved into a folder, Newsstand cannot, since it emulates a folder itself.

Unfortionaltely you cant because they are apples apps. There are a handful of others that you cant remove. The best you can do is hide all of the unwanted apple apps in a "junk" folder. You can hide your newsstand in another folder but its pretty tricky. Heres how you do it.
sorry to be the bearer of bad news 😟
Trick seems to be blocked in iOS 5.1. I tried for over a half hour and it doesn't work anymore.
Yeah, I got so mad I had to take a break. They fixed the glitch and it really ***** cuz newstand is a really pointless app for most people. Hope apple reads this and lets us delete it soon

They won't. Submit your feedback to Apple in the proper place to get it noticed:
iPhone 3GS. Just "upgraded" to iOS 5.1 and discovered this annoying Newstand spam app. Have attempted to move it into a folder as described in various YouTubes. Appears Apple has addressed this with iOS5 so that you cant move into a folder. At least on my phone, it appears there is just enough of a lag time when you try to grab and move it to prevent it from moving into new folder.
Why they would do this is indicative of insidious business character many are apparently becoming enlightened to.
How so LAME and almost inconsiderate of Apple to it's customers!
Due to this and other issues, I am considering going to Android-
from what I have seen so far Android is awesome.

See ya! Android blows. stop crying over newsstand and enjoy the epicness
As a new apple user, it feels apple is too controlling by not allowing users to decide what they want to see, not good :(

That's nice. I don't care. However if you want Apple to know, provide feedback to them here:
