Installation upgrade

I am running Leopard on my Macbook which has an Intel 2 core duo chip.

I have been given to understand that I can upgrade to Snow Leopard and thereafter to Lion but when I insert the Snow Leopard disk it say "this cannot be installed on this machine".

Can anybody tell me where the problem lies?

If the disk is grey in color, it is machine-specific and cannot be used to install Snow Leopard on anything other than the exact same model computer.

Retail disks are black. If you need one they are only $29 from Apple: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A

Snow Leopard System Requirements

  • Mac computer with an Intel processor
  • 1GB of memory
  • 5GB of available disk space
  • DVD drive for installation
  • Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
  • Some features require Apple's MobileMeservice; fees and terms apply.

Unfortunately, that is not allowed, unless you purchased the family pack retail disk.
