Mar 4, 2012 2:56 AM in response to Ellengleeby DanInDub,Unfortunately you can't do this. Idea of videos in the iCloud, as it stands, is to buy/rent them from iTunes Store. That way you can watch them on any iOS device, anytime you want, and there is no need to store it pemanently on the local disk.
Currently iCloud doesn't have "dropbox", or "idisk" functionality. Now there are ways around it, but since it's not how Apple intended it, you may be facing lost of data, so I would stay away from it.
If you really want to store video outside of your computer, external hard drive is probably your best option (I store my videos on a time capsule, and watch them either on my mac, or using media player connected to my TV).
If you insisting on storing video in the cloud, you can try Dropbox http://db.tt/SW0ngidS (altough that won't save you disk space, as the copy is stored on your machine as well). I also don't know what sort of internet connection you have, but it may take ages to send them up/ download from the cloud....

Mar 4, 2012 6:24 AM in response to Ellengleeby EaglexPDX,Get DropBox.
Stay away form iCloud. It is not really a virtual disk. You cannot access it via Finder. It will delete files from you computer.
Get DropBox. The virtual disk and synching function people thought iCloud would be.

Mar 4, 2012 6:49 AM in response to Ellengleeby Carlo TD,unfortnately... i dont belive we are there.... quite yet.... but soon!!! (eventually everyone will have a server in their home)... and with faster routers, faster internet connections, solid state hard drives, and thunderbolt technology... soon! What you could do is get your self an external hd and put your itunes folder on it and use Back to My Mac, and connect the external hd to the back of your Apple Airport Extreme or Apple Airport Timecapsule... and you will be able to play audio over the interenet... but for video...not yet... it consumes to much bandwith and your ISP will limit how much bandwith you use or are allowed to use.

Mar 4, 2012 7:07 AM in response to Carlo TDby DanInDub,I don't think i agree with you. Idea of everyone having server at home was prediction some time back, but since world decided to go ooposit direction - with everything going to the cloud. So you will see less and less power/storage at homes and in end-user devices. Everything will be stored, and majority of processing performed, out there in big data centres. With tablets/computers/whathaveyou being just terminals. Sudennly 80s and frameworks are coming to mind
Idea of remotely connecting to home computer is also slowly, but surely, being left out, as we are getting closer and closer to device independence. Google Chromebooks are perfect example, altough they're far from being ready for the prime time. But this is where we are going.

Mar 4, 2012 7:28 AM in response to DanInDubby Carlo TD,I think it will be a combination of online cloud services and in home services available using at home a server like router. I think it is very similiar to private transportation, and mass transportation. It is almost impossible to go completely to one type of service - both are needed.

Mar 4, 2012 7:36 AM in response to Ellengleeby Carlo TD,If you use Back to my Mac and an external hard drive to hold your itunes folder, (as long as your in your house hold and directly on your network), you will be able to watch your videos in any room using any mac/ ios device. But if you leave your network,(lets say you are at work or visiting relatives, and they have internet access) only the audio will be available. I currently have my itunes folder completely on an extenal hard (to save memory on my laptop) drive and i use Back to My Mac.

ICloud is not an online disk at all, and it is not advertised as such, Mobile Me had an online store, iDisk, but iDisk functionality will end on 6/30/12
