How do I mute a clip/region on a track?

Hi,

I want to mute one clip or region in one of my tracks. How do I do this?

I don't want to delete that region, cos I might use it later and I don't want to move it elsewhere.

Is it possible just to mute one region/clip on a track but keep the rest of the track normal?

Thanks in advance! 🙂

No, GB doesn't have a feature of muting one region in a track (like Logic has).

So there's only workarounds. One: duplicate the track and move the region to the new track - then it has the same effect settings and you can mute the region with one click. Two: create a volume curve and set it to zero along the region you want to mute - again you can mute and un-mute it with one click by enabling and disabling the volume curve (of course - if you already have a curve on your track, that would get disabled too.)

If you ask me: no 1 is a lot easier.

Dragging a region vertically without moving it sideways can be a challenge. If you have "snap to grid" turned on and you cut at a barline, that's the easiest way to do it. Even if you want a snippet that doesn't start on beat 1 of a bar, you can cut there, move, and then drag the egdes of the old and new region out the way you want them.

Without the grid, I have experienced that the more you hesitate, the easier it is to mess things up. So just yank the thing down one track, most of the time it works. :-)
