Hi,

I've just gone all Mac. And while user friendly in some ways I find the learning curve to be pretty steep for someone who isn't a techy.

I've  followed the discussions wrt Unpairing my apple tv remote from the two Mac books in the house. And my remote still doesn't work on my apple tv.

We also have two iPads.. Would those be interfering with my apple remote?  When I hold down the menu and rewind button, nothing happens. I then hold down the menu and fast forward button and nothing happens. My screen is still frozen. Tried the hard reboot to no avail.

Can someone pls help me as I'm about to punt this stupid apple tv clear across the backyard.

Thx.

Andy

    Welcome to the Apple Community.

Did you hold the buttons down for long enough, you also may need to hold the remote fairly close to the device.

Your iPads will not interfere with an IR remote

Is your Apple TV new, has it worked before.

When you restarted did you try removing all the cables for 30 seconds.

When you press any of the buttons on the remote does the status light flash on the Apple TV, have you considered a flat battery (although you usually get a warning for months before it goes), Do you get any messages when it is starting up, does it restart to the main menu screen or another.

It's hard to tell whether the system is frozen or whether it's just ignoring the remote, I assume you don't have an iPhone or similar with the remote app on to try.

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:

    • Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
    • Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
    • Open iTunes.
    • Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.

It's worth a try, it may tell us more.

Yes you would need homesharing on on both the Apple TV and the phone, of course if you didn't previously have homesharing on on the Apple TV, there is now no way to do that without the original remote.

Then how do you unfreeze the unit?

I would restore the ATV using iTunes

Also try using the Macbook remote if it came with one. I don't recall if the new do. My 2006 MB did
