Frozen apple tv...

Hi,

I've just gone all Mac. And while user friendly in some ways I find the learning curve to be pretty steep for someone who isn't a techy.

I've followed the discussions wrt Unpairing my apple tv remote from the two Mac books in the house. And my remote still doesn't work on my apple tv.

We also have two iPads.. Would those be interfering with my apple remote? When I hold down the menu and rewind button, nothing happens. I then hold down the menu and fast forward button and nothing happens. My screen is still frozen. Tried the hard reboot to no avail.

Can someone pls help me as I'm about to punt this stupid apple tv clear across the backyard.

Thx.

Andy

Hi Wintston,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Yes to all of the above.

I held the remote for 15 seconds directly in front of the ATV. The light does flicker when I press any buttons, so it's not a battery problem.

My ATV is a yr old at most and worked fine... until we bought our first macbook...

I have removed all cables for several minutes but it 'boots' back up to the original frozen screen.

Thoughts?

It's hard to tell whether the system is frozen or whether it's just ignoring the remote, I assume you don't have an iPhone or similar with the remote app on to try.

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:

  • Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
  • Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
  • Open iTunes.
  • Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.
