Multiple documents in Word

I've asked this question before and got no answer.

Whenever I close and reopen Word all of the latest documents open up.

I don't need this bloody setting.

I just want to start a new document.

With this bad setting active, I spend a lot of time closing back old documents, etc. since my year-old macbook pro is faulty as well, I get the rainbow wheel in between operations and there's delays.

I've tried to find this in Word settings but there's nothing that would seem related to this.

help?

Sounds like the Resume feature. Are you sure your are using Mac OS X v10.6.7?

In system preferences on the general section near the bottom is Number Of recent items, at the very bottom of that section uncheck "Restore windows when quitting and reopening apps".

You could also limit the number of items to zero for each section.

You can also close all the documents BEFORE closing word. Just to clarify can you check what version of the system you have by selecting the menu item " > About This Mac".
