Q: iTunes Crisis! Help!
Ever start something you wish you hadn't?
I've tried to tidy up my iTunes library as I noticed a library within a library including numerous duplicate data files holding metadata. Big mistake.
I took the precaution of backing up my library 'as-is' and I'm glad I did! This is roughly what I've done:
1) created new iTunes library.
2) Attempted to copy all files over from old style iTunes Music folder to newly created iTunes Media folder (both on an external HD) by clicking 'Library' and then 'maintain library' making sure the 'keep iTunes library organised' tab checked. This entire process didn't work at all - nothing happened and no files moved.
3) Then manually dragged and dropped music files from one folder to the other including the metadata files. This has worked partially except my playlists are gone as well as track ratings. The metadata files are in the media album but I'm not sure how they're meant to populate the new library.
Prior to all this messing it's worth pointing out the following:
a) I'm signed up to iCloud
b) I'm signed up to iTunes Match
My question is this:
My iPhone, iPad and Apple TV are all still displaying my original library uploaded via iTunes Match - is there any way I can simply 'write off' what I've started to do badly, create a new blank library and re-access my iCloud / iTunes Match library which would (hopefully) populate my iMac's iTunes App with original playlists (but presumably showing cloud symbols by every single track?
It's not ideal I know but I seem to be getting further and further in to a mess as I carry on the way I am doing.
Thanks
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
