iMac won't start after new software update.
It will go to the grey screen and appear to be loading and then just shut down. Any ideas how to fix it?

I tried these steps, and the only one that worked, was booting the system in safe mode. It started and performed normally but, when I tried to restart in normal mode it just made it to the apple logo and turned off again. Is there anything I can do when logged in, in safe mode that can fix this?
Choose the startup disk in System Preferences. It would be:
System Preferences - Startup Disk - make sure the internal HD is highlighted then click restart to test.
Also it would be very helpful if you:
a) completed your Profile so at least we know the version of OS X is installed
b) answered den.thed's question about what update you're referring to.
If you don't know how to complete your profile click Your Stuff in the upper right of this page then select Profile and complete as needed.
