itunes stopped saving my rss podcast ID/password

I keep entering the ID and password and checking the "save password" checkbox. Itunes won't save it like it used to. This is for a subscription podcast.

I've just added to a discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3782895?answerId=17770771022#17770771022) for which I did some research and found another Podcast from the same premierradio.net that your picture shows.

It would appear that there have been some recent changes with their Podcast service and this may explain the trouble you're having.

I stand by what I said before: Podcasts do not require a password in iTunes. The password is being asked for by the Podcast provider due to the way they have set up the Podcast.

My advice - and you're free to ignore it - is to contact the Podcast provider since only they know how they've set this service up.

I have this problem too for iTunes 10.6.0.40 on Windows 7. It is an iTunes issue, not the podcast issuer's. I have two unrelated podcasts that require authentication and the same behavior is exhibited for both. Formerly iTunes would remember the username and password. Now they have to entered each time! This is new error or file corruption. Any suggestions? Thanks.

No, this is a user-to-user forum.

If you (all) feel that the problem is iTunes, or can be best fixed by Apple rather than the Podcasters, then I suggest you send some feedback to Apple. For the iTunes application, you can do that at http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html and I guess you should submit it as Feedback Type: "Downloading music, movies, TV shows, apps and more with iTunes" or "Other" since there is no option for bug reporting.

Hopefully Apple or someone finds us a fix.

I think I've made a useful suggestion - My advice - and you're free to ignore it - is to contact the Podcast provider - and I've even suggested an alternative for those who simply don't believe my theory on this: If you (all) feel that the problem is iTunes, or can be best fixed by Apple rather than the Podcasters, then I suggest you send some feedback to Apple.

However, as yet, not one person who has contributed their views to this thread has re-posted with any confirmation that they followed either of those suggestions. Until then, you're all keeping each other in the dark about any progress with this problem, which means that this thread is liklely to become longer with "it doesn't work" posts.

To GPG57:

I would not have known of any relationship between the Glenn Beck Podcast (mentioned in the thread I linked to above) and the Coast 2 Coast Podcast until I investigated this, and so despite what you suggest (that your problems are not related) I would still contact the show's producers in the first instance.

Someone may be asking why I don't follow my own suggestions...

I'm not experiencing the problem and any report I make would be second hand. It's much better coming form the person with the problem.

Sorry, I wasn't aware I needed to report in. I contacted Apple several days ago - first talking to a customer service rep who didn't understand the problem either and finally referred me to a web page to apprise Apple of the situation. I have done so and have heard nothing.

Look, if all the different paid podcast providers suddenly stop working at the same time on iTunes properly, can we admit the possibility that the problem might be the All Holy ITunes?

There's absolutely no point at all in ringing anyone from Apple on the phone (or online chat!).

I believe I covered that in my previous posts. I will however, say this again - but this time for the very very last time.

Either:

  • Contact the show's producers - even if there are several different shows - contact at least one of them! They can then drive the fix. (This is what I would do and have done when I've had Podcast problems in the past.)
  • Contact Apple by the use of the Feedback process that I linked to above.
  • Leave some useful information in this thread so that those of you who are complaining about this can see what is happening.

Do not ring Apple, email Apple "directly", or use any other method, since I believe it's unlikely that Apple will have a procedure to deal with enquiries sent by those methods. (It's not what the phone option is for.)
