windows xp won't recognize my iphone

My computer will not recognize my new iphone 4. What is the problem?

Check these two Apple support documents. These will address the iPhone being recognized in Windows and/or iTunes. If you still are not getting satisfaction, you may have to uninstall iTunes and reinstall it to get a fresh copy of the USB driver. To do that follow this Apple support document http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 to the letter for removal and reinstallation. Restart the computer, reconnect the iPhone and you should be back in business.

I'm not sure if I had the same issue as you did, but my iPhone 4s was actually being recognized by iTunes, but not by Windows XP. To cut to the chase, if anyone wants to transfer their iPhone pics/videos to their PC, but their iPhone isn't being recognized by Windows XP, please see the solution posted by FinallySolvedThis in a Microsoft forum. It may not work for everyone, but this was the only solution that worked for me.
