Does Quicktime 10 automatically sound check recordings?

Hey everyone,

I'm using Quicktime 10 on Snow Leopard to record movies using my video camera and microphones/mixer. My setup is:

microphones->mixer via 3.5mm->[Quicktime 10 on MBP]<-camera via dv/firewire

Now I also have some headphones plugged into the mixer on the same port as the computer, so I can monitor the recording live. On the headphones, I can hear changes in dynamics/volume, but when I play back the recording made with Quicktime, it becomes very hard to hear those variations. What I'm wondering is Quicktime automatically running sound check/leveling the input volume live as I record?
