If you're using Pages 2, you can go to Preferences > Auto-correction, check the box for Symbol and Text Substitution, and make sure the auto-correction box that changes (c) to © is checked.

Try using opt-G. You'd think it would be opt-C, but it's not.

You can use the Character Palette or type ⌥g (that's option-g). The keyboard viewer is a useful way to find out what alternate keys cause symbols to appear.

One of the handy things I've found lately is a widget called CharacterPal. You just hover your mouse pointer over a character, and it tells you what key combination to type.

As was previously mentioned—the widget for Tiger called CharacterPal is from http://www.tacowidgets.com/ . I have it but only find it useful on occasion.

Honestly, I find it way too east just to hit 'Cmd Option t' to bring up the character palette. And what is really useful is using the "Favorites" tab which allows you to drag in all the various characters you have occasion to use from all the various character sets you may have.

It's nice and neat & fast—all in one place.
