My music just stops in the middle! Both iTunes and iPhone

I have a problem in both iTunes and iPhone when playing music. On iTunes, a song will suddenly stop in the middle and go on to the next song. On iPhone, the audio for the song will stop in the exact same place as on iTunes, but the timer will continue to tick as if the song is still playing, and the phone still shows as being in play mode. The remaining time will tick away in silence and then the next song starts normally. This always happens at the same point in the affected songs. This only happens with purchased music, but only with some purchased music, not all. All music was legitimately purchased. This only began happening after I updated my phone to iOS 5.

ITunes 10.5.3.3 and iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1.

If anyone could help I would appreciate it.

I'm having this problem as well since upgrading to Sierra. I've had a enormous problems with iTunes Match (which worked OK by itself) and iMusic compatibility since adding iMusic services ( Albums missing, songs missing, coming and going, downloaded Albums disappearing from my iPhone, etc.) But, This is a new problem I believe starting with Sierra. Downloaded music on my iPhone pauses while playing back through the cars Bluetooth. Apple says there may be VW patch for my car's Fender stereo! But also songs stop playing on my iMac with nothing else running. I've turned off Notifications, etc., Reloaded Sierra, reloaded My iTunes library, spent mutilple hours with Apple Support. I'm getting ready to look for a new music player and give up on iTunes and I music altogether.

➕ℹ UPDATE ℹ ➕

I found something that worked for me in correcting corrupted music files that stops in the middle. Some people were right, but here are details: I think it may be in the way you delete the corrupted song. Try this (assuming you're on the Cloud)....

1) Open I-Tunes Library

2) Click on "Music" file, the one that contains ALL songs. DO NOT open the song under any other file name such as in your playlist, etc.!!

3) Highlight your corrupted song, and press the "delete" key on your keyboard. DO NOT move it click and drag to trash. DO NOT use the navigation menu above. I don't know why but, but those didn't work for me!!

4) Repeat this for every song that's corrupted. Remember, only delete using the "delete' key on your keyboard.

Now....Go to I-Tunes Store, Home Page.

1) Under QuickLinks, click on Purchases

2) Click on the "Music" folder, and click on the song

3) Click on the "iCloud" symbol. It SHOULD start re-downloading your song.

Now...Return to I-Tunes Library

1) Ensure that the song in re-downlown. DO NOT interrupt the process.

This worked for me, it's just that it's the way you're deleting the files depends on whether or not your download is successful.

Millie Willie, this worked a charm for me, but I had to close and reopen iTunes after deleting the song before the song appeared downloadable.

I am certain some of the songs I have this problem with are ones I burned off a CD or acquired elsewhere, but I need to identify them. We found that some MP3s would play fine in other media players, but would stop in iTunes.

I've checked with a lot of friends about this same issue. All of them are having the problem since switching to Lion. The problem isn't exclusive to songs downloaded from iTunes. It happens to ripped CD's as well. The "solutions" provided would be great if it was only a few songs. But, in this case, out of the 5,000+ songs I have, I've experienced it on several hundred. Something has probably corrupted the metadata file but I'm not experienced enough to hazard a guess as to a more global solution instead an each by each one.

I would think that Apple would jump in at this point and suggest something. Has anyone tried going to an Apple Store and talk with anyone at the Genius Bar?

Thanks,

Gary

Well to be honest with you all, this is really not only happening to ITUNES songs, but if you were to google this problem you will notice that is also happening with Pandora, Soundcloud, Itunes, you name it!.

This is very frustrating, it is a software issue not a song issue.

As soon as i updated my software to the latest version 6.0 i started to get this problem.

I did a reset, i did a back up, i did it all and nothing problem still persists.

One thing I noticed is that when music stops, doesnt necessarily stop scrolling, the song indicator still runs, i have seen this in pandora, soundcloud and itunes.

And as soon as i unplug the jack, and quickly plug it back in the music continues, but then it stops again.

I have never dropped the phone, never got the phone wet.

I am about to smash this thing to the floor is so freaking frustrating.

I think I might have found a cause to this problem, but not a solution. Perhaps one of you guys can help me.

When I open my ITunes, at the top bar it starts running and says "Determining Gapless Playback Information".

The issue of tracks stopping in the middle and going on to the next one, started when this started running every time I open ITunes.

Any idea on how to de-activate or switch it off?

Loads of thanks to whoever can help!!

I had a similar problem only recently. I am still using iTunes 10 (as I can't stand ver 11 and returned to 10), so obviously it is not due to any new update from Apple. It does appear to me like iTunes assumes the song is on a gapless album. and jumps to the next song about 1.52 min in every song. I checked the files through a mp3/m4a file editor and the music files are not corrupted. Which led me to believe it maybe how the song is designated in iTunes. Nothing in the song's option tab is checked. Therefore, I concluded that it must be something in the xml file that stores some of the song's information.

All that said. This is what worked for me:

Delete affected songs from library, keep the files, and re-add songs to the library.

I have a rather large collection so I hope not all of my songs are affected. Hope it works for you

Dear, I'm having the same problem! When I put the musics in my ipod it works well, in the Itunes in my macbook etheir, but whe I download it with wire or by icloud to my iphone and to my ipad the problem appear, and the same music that played well in my itunes stop at the middle in my iphone and in my ipad! Someone knows you to fix it?

The only way I found to solve my problem was to delete the affected songs from my library and my devices, re-download them from the iTunes store, and re-upload them to my devices. That also meant I had to reconstruct playlists. Pain in the butt but it worked.

My problem was only with purchased music. I don't know what I'd do if it were music I had ripped from CDs, because my CDs are all in storage now.

I have something that may help. Having the same problem I clicked on the song, hit File, Summary and notivred the songs this was happening to all were called Protected AAC File. Also, what was missing in the information box was this " Itunes v6.0.3 and Quicktime 7.0.3. These are the songs affected. Where we go from here is a mystery though.
