Cannot install Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro with Intel Core2Duo processor and 4GB RAM.

I trying to upgrade a MacBook Pro with Intel Core2Duo processor and 4GB RAM from Leopard 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard. When I click on Install Mac OS X, I get a message that Mac OS X Snow Leopard cannot be installed on this computer. Any Suggestions?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.

Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.

Select your language.

Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.

Select Disk Utility.

Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.

Click Repair Disk.

Restart your computer when done.

Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.

After you reach the desktop again, you should be able to upgrade to Snow Leopard.

Backup your users folders off the machine to a external storage drive (not TimeMachine) and disconnect.

Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk and use Disk Utility to Repair the drive, then quit.

Then try to install 10.6 from there, it's the same thing as doubleclickkng the installer.

If that fails, you may have to c boot off the 10.5 disk, erase the entire drive (use the Zero option) and resinstall 10.5, all your 10.5 based software, then c boot off the 10.6 and install.

Once your up on 10.6, Software Update to 10.6.8, then go around and update/upgrade your third party software to 10.6.8 versions.

If your thinking of going to 10.7, forget your 10.5 software, it won't run it. You'll need 10.7 compatible versions and it might not be ready yet. Also 10.7 isn't ideal for older machines, 2010 Intel Mac's and later, Early 2011 and later preferred. 10.6 has the widest range of avaialble software and hardware drivers. 10.7 to a lesser extend and 10.8 is being released this summer will not run on older hardware, not much ready for it.

Note: Installing the 10.6.3 directly doesn't have the free iLife that your 10.5 machine specific disks do. So if you erase/zero install 10.5 first, then upgrade to 10.6.3 the 10.5 iLife will work. 🙂
