Q: Missing AirPlay Icon

How do I get the AirPlay icon on my phone? I have the iphone 4S, it has been updated to 5.0.1 version and I still do not have that icon.

    Mirroring is the video aspect of AirPlay, and only iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and Apple TV 2 support mirroriing.  If he can project what's going on from his iPhone to his ATV, he must have an ATV 2 (and an iPhone 4S).

     

    You'd know if you had an ATV 2 ... is is quite a lot smaller than ATV 1 and has no hard drive.  So again, do you have the 1st or 2nd generation ATV?

    Or, he's playing the movies from iTunes in his computer, not his iDevice.

    Incorrect, the original can download movies directly from iTunes, as well as music and store the information on its hard drive. It can also pull photos from the computer or access them on MobileMe (untile June 30th), can access Internet radio, YouTube, etc.

    Well All,

     

    I broke down and called apple. They had me go into Setting's > General > Reset > clicked Reset Network Settings. It restarted my iphone and I now have the Apple TV icon... I was mistaken and do have the second geneation and my fathers does work and mine was just broken Thanks for all that tried to help me out.

    I said I wasnt sure... I just said I know he has the same devices that I do and it works for him... but i was told "no it doesn't" so, I guess little people like me have no choice sometimes but thank you anyway.

    there is a difference between bluetooth PHONE and MUSIC modes.   If you have the headphones connected to multiple devices - then ONLY ONE will be able to play back music.  Like -- I have ipad3 and iphone5 -- headphones worked on ipad3 for MUSIC but not on iphone5 as music (phone did work).  I turned off the ipad3 bluetooth, and now the iphone5 plays headphones.
