iTunes gift card already been redeemed by another account

Has anyone else gone to redeem an iTunes gift card and been told that it has already been redeemed?

This happened to me last week. I scratched off the panel, entered the code and got the message 'The Gift Certificate or iTunes Card you entered has already been redeemed'.

When i reported this to Apple thay advised that they needed a picture/scan of the card and the shop receipt where it was purchased, I provided this information and was told there was nothing they could do to help. They know the acount that has used this code but still they will not investigate how this has happend.

So I loose my £25! I have gone back to them again and they have now offered to credit my account with 10 songs, so about £8.

How is this right!?

I've run into the same problem with a card with an illegible code. I scratched off the foil ages ago and finally got round to redeeming it yesterday by sending photos of the card and the serial number to customer services. Apple have said that the card was redeemed to another account a couple of months ago. The date of redemption was after the foil had been removed revealing the illegible code and while the card was in my wallet. I've asked Apple provide a credible explanation as to how the card could be redeemed to another account under these circumstances.

I had exactly the same problem... I believe that the Store know of this problem and there security has been hacked...

My advice and I'm sure the advice that will soon be on public forums... would be DON'T purchase itunes cards, they are not secure... you're taking a risk with your purchases...

I have also email Watchdog, and will be speaking with Trading Standards, I would suggest others also do this as well, so it becomes a public issue and prehaps embarrasses the company into acting on this issue...

I received a gift card for $25 for christmas. I scratched the back coating off - entered the code - it say's it's already been redeemed. Bummer... feel like the person who gave it to me got ripped off. Also, curious how it's been redeemed since the code is hidden under the scratch coating... I definitely wont be buying iTunes gift cards in the future. Amazn cards have always worked... perhaps a safer bet.

Sadly exactly same thing has just happened to me. Apple Support response when I reported it (pre reading this thread) was to effectively call me a liar by stating that the card was redeemed in July 2012. The card was a gift so have asked for the receipt as hopefully that will prove the gift card was purchased after July 2012........ if so then I look forward to how Apple will explain that timing issue!

As per all above the response from Apple had no hint that this was a known previously reported issue.

Shocking and disgraceful way for a company with the vast wealth of Apple to behave.

Quick update on my already redeemed itunes gift card, emailed customer services repeatedly but they refused to say anything on the matter other than computer says no, tough luck, can't help you, we've already credited someone else's account with your £25!

In my opinion there are so many posts on the web on this subject there must be a problem with itunes card security, but unless forced to do so, Apple are unlikely to acknowledge this fact because of the likely impact on revenues. Trading standards and Watchdog are the only viable options because if Apple were to help you they would be effectively saying their cards are unsecure.

After approaching my local BBC radio station and getting them on the case I am pleased to say that a representative from Apple HQ in Ireland contacted me and has issued a full refund/replacement gift card codes.

It really shouldn't have gone this far if Apple Customer Support actually cared about their customers. There is still an issue out there with the 'already redeemed' message and I suspect the problem is too big for Apple to admit too.

Good luck to the rest of you.

I have an opposite problem. I purchased a $25 itunes gift card from eBay, redeemed the code but the seller contact apple support with his receipt and took the money back from my account. I asked apple about it and they said they could not provide any information about that seller. I'm trying to get my money back through ebay but I think it won't work because I don't have any evidence to proof that the seller stole money from me.

I really don't get why apple can't give me the seller's information, it will be much easier!

I also bought a $25 App Gift card from Target Store in Georgia for my son. When we scratched off the code and tried to redeem it the Apple store says its already used. I took the card back to Target and they said they showed the same thing that the card was already redeemed and that its impossible for it to have been used when they activated so they will not refund my money. So now I am left up the mercy of apple to investigate this very serious security breach of their product.

I have open a ticket with Apple and will be posting an update when I receive their response.

I bought a Macbook Air in early July. Since I am a college student, I got a $100 iTunes gift card. I didn't redeem the card immediately after I got it. Last week, I tried to redeem the card. But after I scratched off the code, and entered it into the computer. It said it has already been redeemed.

Had contacted apple, they replied with no help! They just said sorry and ask me to request refund from the bank or from the retail store. It's obviously their mistake, but they just won't accept it.

I have the original receipt of the gift card, they said the card has been redeemed by someone else. But they refused to provide the information due to privacy reason..

After reading this post, I found there were so many people having this issue. But apple just ignore it.
