MacPro refuses to Shutdown - Hang

Its been about a week, my Mac Pro 2008 doesnot shutdown.

Everytime I try to shutdown the screen goes to the background, arrow key moves, all folders disappear. I cannot click on anything and none of the keys work. It stays in this state until I have to hold down the power button to force shutdown.

I have tried to reset the PRAM and that didnot help.

I'm using 2008 Mac Pro with Snow Lepoard. About 2 months back I reinstalled OS and added a new harddrive.Everything worked fine until a week ago.

Some forums suggested going into System Preferences - General - and unchecking "Restore windows when quitting" - but I cant find any general section in system perferences.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this problem?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

That "Restore windows when quitting" is a lion thing. Your profile says you are using 10.6.8.

Is there anything in the crash or console logs?

We have a big problem with that kind of thing here when there is an Windows PC connected via network.

If the PC is shut down without first egecting it from the macpro, the macpro will not shut down.

Hey, I have same problem. Sometimes I get the grey screen and spinning wheel (spinning forever) when I shutdown my MacBook Pro.

Maybe the issue caused by some computers (I have two PCs running) on the same LAN? I can see them, but I never access them when I use my Mac.

How can I check for a crash or console logs?

I have just os running on my machine. Can't figure out what's going wrong.

i checked the console log on my machine, turns out zumodrive was refusing to unmount on shutdown so I uninstalled it and now everything is ok. thanks for the help!!!
