Mac wont boot after PRam reset

I have a MBP 13inch from 2011

recently i zapped my Pram becuase i was having trouble with a external screen but when I turned it on again the screen when to the grey screen with the apple logo and spinning gear but after 2 hours of wating the screen is still the same. What can i do to get back onto my mac?

Hold the Option key down between the startup tone and the Apple logo with pinwheel.

This will start the Boot Manager. Select your MacIntosh HD. When the system comes up, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk > Select your disk again and restart.

Try a Safe Mode start first? Hold down the shift key before the startup chime. Will take a long time to start.
